My Hope Radio:  In three or four sentences, how would you describe your journey of faith?

Sonia Martinez: Everything had been great in my walk with God until I lost my husband in a terrible accident three years ago. That painful journey alone helped me to rely and depend more on Jesus. I realized life may have ups and downs but all things work together for good to them that love God.

My Hope Radio: En tres o cuatro frases, ¿cómo describieras tu caminar por fe?

Sonia Martínez: Durante mi caminar con el Señor, todo marchaba bien hasta que mi amado esposo murió en un accidente hace 3 años. Esa jornada dolorosa me impulsó a depender mas en Jesús. Me di cuenta que la vida tiene sus altos y bajos, pero todas las cosas sirven para bien para aquellos que aman a Dios.

MHR:  What is your favorite Scripture in the Bible?

SM: I just love, love, love, Psalm 32:8: “I will instruct thee in the way which thou shalt go, I will guide thee with mine eye.” If He is guiding me with His eyes, I have to keep looking to Him every second of my life!

MHR: ¿Cual es su escritura favorita de la Biblia?

SM: ¡Como me encanta el Salmo 32:8! “Te haré entender y te enseñaré el camino en que debes andar, sobre ti fijaré mis ojos.” Esto me indica que yo debo mantener mi mirada en El en todo tiempo para recibir su dirección.

MHR: What is your music background? (Who influenced you, when did you start singing, etc…)

SM: My mom says even as a child I would stand on top of the washing machine and using a hairbrush as a mic I would sing till I drove everyone crazy! When I came to church, the first Christian voices that really inspired me were Maribel Mendizabal, Jeanna Macey, and Shara McKee. I truly admire these ladies.

MHR: ¿Cuáles han sido las influencias en tu vida suya las cuales te han traído al punto musical donde te encuentras hoy? 

SM: Mi madre dice que aun desde pequeña me encantaba pararme arriba de la lavadora, y usando un cepillo de cabello en mis manos como micrófono, cantaba hasta volver a todos locos. De adulta, durante mis primeros días en la iglesia, escuché las voces de 3 siervas de Dios que realmente fueron de bendición, y las cuales fueron mi guía al cantar música cristiana. Estas fueron Maribel Mendizabal, Jeanna Macey y Shara McKee.

MHR: What specific themes do you cover in your songs? Why?

SM:  Due to real life events and circumstances that we sometimes have to endure, my song themes include everything from forgiving others to being warriors for Jesus. Just as the Lord speaks to me with every song He gives me, I want the world to feel the same.

MHR: ¿Cuáles son las temas especificas en sus canciones, y porqué?

SM: Cada canto que he escrito ha sido por algún evento real o una circunstancia que he atravesado en mi vida. Los temas incluyen un poco de todo, perdonar, la misericordia de Dios, buscando un valiente, etc…

MHR: Do you write your own songs? (If so, discuss your usual songwriting process.)

SM: I have written mostly all of the songs and the funny thing is I have written most of them during my lowest valleys. I would shut the door, place my little Casio keyboard on my lap, grab any paper laying around and just dive into the Lord’s presence.

MHR: ¿Escribes las canciones que grabas?

SM: Por la gracia de Dios he escrito casi todos los cantos en mis 2 albums y lo mas extraño es que la mayoría de ellos los he escrito durante los valles mas bajos en mi vida. Me encerraba en mi habitación, con mi pianito Casio, y en cualquier papel que encontraba cerca empezaba a escribir, y me perdía en la presencia del Señor!
