My Hope Radio: Tell us a little about your family.
Sharron Kay King: I am happily married to Joel Driver (Sharron Kay King is my stage name.) I am a very blessed mother of three children – Julie, Jason, and Elizabeth – are all grown with families of their own. I am also a very proud granny of seven wonderful grandchildren: Zoey, 12; Devin, 9; Myles, 8; Elianna, 3; Lucy, 2; Michaela, 6 months; and Emelyn, 2 months. All are in church and raising their children in the house of God.
MHR: Describe your spiritual journey.
SKK: I had no knowledge of Christianity outside the Sunday school song “Jesus Loves Me,” which my granny taught me at the tender age of five. At the age of twenty-five, I found myself a single mother raising three children and very lost. I was a cocaine addict and an alcoholic. My family had given up on me years before but it was in April 1987 that my mother turned her back on me and disowned me for the life I was living. It was then I began to take a long look at my life and through the conviction of “Jesus Loves Me” I ended up in a Holiness church on July 25, 1987, and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. Not only did I get saved that night, the Lord completely delivered me from nearly fourteen years of addictions.
MHR: What is your favorite Scripture in the Bible?
SKK: Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their own life even unto the death.” I LOVE Psalm 62:2: “He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
MHR: What is your music background? (Who influenced you, when did you start singing, etc…)
SKK: I had never been involved with music until after I got saved. I began playing guitar and writing songs a couple years after I was saved. I love to write. I have recorded eight CD projects to date, four of them being Nashville productions. Some influences in my life would have to be the Rambo’s, Mickey Mangun, and Priscilla McGruder. I also admire Bobbie Shoemake.
MHR: What is one of your favorite songs to sing? Why is it your favorite?
SKK: I love to sing the songs the Lord has allowed me to write but also love the old hymns. There is such strength in the words of the songs of yesterday. I wish we would use our songbooks more often. I would probably say my favorite song of all is ‘Amazing Grace.’
MHR: Do you write your own songs? (If so, discuss your usual songwriting process.)
SKK: I do write. I get a lot of inspiration through my own life experiences as well as sermons.
MHR: Where can we listen, purchase, and connect with you?
SKK: www.sharronkayking.com (You can also read more of my testimony on this site.) I also have pages on Reverb Nation and FaceBook.
